We lost another one. Maybe it was the drought, maybe it was it's age, in any case there is going to be a huge hole in the front-yard. The ivy died on this tree back in the early spring, causing concern for the father-in-law (you may remember him also as the knower of all things). He has been worried about the kids getting hurt, so he got his buddy "Cruse" to come and get the limbs and part of the top off.
I think his actual orders were "to make it look like a pencil", so the "farmer" and the "pro-logger" (this is what Cruse calls the hubs and the father-in-law) could get it down. If we have any hurricane damage this week-end he is your man to call. He was telling us about cutting down some trees for a new neighbor from Rhode Island. The fellow was telling him he moved here to be a farmer and that he was going to grow some veggies in the "meadow". Cruse replied, "MEADOW... what meadow, where is the meadow?" "Right over there," replied the R.I. guy. "Want to know what he was pointing at?" Cruse asked us. We nodded. "The darn PASTURE, heck, I thought I was going to see a real meadow." He replied. Maybe the guy needs a "how to speak Southern guide". I hope he doesn't call "grilling out" a "barbecue", now THAT could cause a ruckus, lol!

Sorry about the loss, but trees are one of our renewable resources. Plant a new one. :)
We are planning on planting several trees this fall. It's just that all the trees in our yard are the same age, and it is sad to see them go. The hubs grandfather planted many of them himself.
I hate cutting down a tree - even when they really need to come down (ie our apple tree - completely hollow on the inside, and just waiting for a breeze - so we cut it down.)
LOL - the meadow hmmmm - well, at least it was well fertilized.
we just had one cut...now i just dont have to mow around it anymore..
LOL... out here in Missouri they have issues with the correct usage of "grilling" vs. "BBQ" also. Ha!
No, I don't know where Mt. Pleasant is. I'm not as familiar with Charlotte... only Pinehurst where my sister lives now. I moved from Charlotte when I was like 3 months old, down to GA.

The guy with the truck I need to hire for 30 minutes.
My neighbor brought his basket truck over yesterday but his squirt boom was about 10' short for what I needed.
I'm not sure what we call cooking on a grill here. I think we use all of the terms interchangebly.
Too bad he is not closer, Cliff, he would come in a heartbeat. He did three huge trees in our back yard five years ago. Does good work, and doesn't leave a huge mess.
