You know how they are always talking about how much knowledge kids lose over summer vacation? Well just three short weeks ago L had a test on the states and capitols. We had been studying for two months in short segments. The kid knew them front and back. For the test he had to label an empty map of the U.S. and spell them correctly. The other day on the T.V. they said "Kansas".me- Levi, what is the capitol of Kansas?
L- What ?
me- What is the capitol of KANSAS.
L- Kansas? (like he has never heard that word before)
me- Yes, Kansas.
L- Kansas, is NOT a state.
me- What?
L- KANSAS is not a state. You just made that word up.
me- Are you being serious right now?
L- Yes.......
me- It most certainly IS a state.
L- What is the capitol then?
me- I can't remember.
L- See, it isn't a state. (matter-of-factly)
Ten minutes later, after I had googled Kansas.....
me- Wyatt, go tell Levi that the capitol of KANSAS is TOPEKA.
W- Mom said the capitol of Kansas is Tapioca or something.
L- OHHHHH, Topeka, Kansas! NOW I REMEMBER!!!!
me- (laughing) We are never going to let you live this one down.
L- I know!!!

so cute--Dave and I laughed pretty hard at this one. I can hardly remember any capitals...maybe 4?
Yeah, I couldn't name too many before studying with him. Now I think I can name almost all of them. But, locating them on a map is another story, those New England states get me every time, lol.
That's funny. I haven't checked to see their retention level. I loved these when I was little - hmmm, now I'm gonna count how many I recall.
That is too funny. One of the reasons I love blogging is for recording silly things like that.
