Banana Pudding

Conversation with the hubs after he had been digging around in the fridge for several minutes.

Him: Where is it?
Me: Where's what?
Him: The banana pudding.
Me: Banana pudding?
Him: Yeah.
Me: There is no banana pudding.
Him: What? The kids ate a whole banana pudding?
Me: No, I haven't made banana pudding today.
Him: But....there are vanilla wafers out.......
Me: Let me get this straight, you saw vanilla wafers and automatically assumed that there was pudding?
Him: Yes.
Me: The buddies were eating the vanilla wafers for a snack.
Him: That's just wrong.

(Here in the South some of us take our "naner puddin" VERY seriously. )

Mind Games

I have been making the boys pick a number between one and ten for a few weeks now after supper. The one closest to the number gets first choice of which chore he wants to do that night. They range from unloading the dishwasher, reloading the dishwasher, sweeping the kitchen floor, straightening the living room, you get the picture. So like I said, this has been working great because they pick what they want to do and there has been no complaining about who does what. Last night, S looked at me and said......"Mom? Is the number you pick always four?" All of a sudden I had three sets of startled blue eyes looking at me. S started laughing. Funny that the seven year old caught on and no one else did. The number was always four.

Got to Be

Look for it, buy it, support your local growers! Many restaurants and large stores buy local meat and produce, including Walmart. If you want outstanding home cooked food, try The Commonhouse in Charlotte. I am not even kidding when I say the food is amazing! I had steak and Landon had pot roast and oh my word, delicious. Crystal told us she would have licked her plate if we weren't in a restaurant. :) The meat comes from a small local farm. Oh and the best part? My very own cousin owns it with some buddies. Congrats Michael, job well done!

Yummy

Today the hubs asked me to make potato soup for supper. I agreed, before I had a chance to survey the potato situation in the cabinet. Realizing I only had about eight left (no where near enough for my people), I started cutting them up for hash browns. I then scrambled up some home grown eggs to go with that, and grilled bacon on the George Foreman. It was getting so smoky in the kitchen, I told Levi to open the vent to the stove. We have a very "old school" one that actually goes through a hole to the outside. About five minutes later, my brother-in-law came tapping at the kitchen window. "What are you COOKING?" he asked grinning from ear to ear. "Hash browns, eggs and bacon. We are having breakfast for supper, " I replied. "Oh my gosh! It smells SO GOOD. I thought someone was grilling out here....the smell is going straight to the shop. It is driving us CRAZY!" he told me. Then he started to leave, and turned back around adding, "If you have any leftovers CALL ME!"

Wow, the way to a man's heart REALLY is through his stomach! Today anyway, lol.

Brother-in-law

This is my brother-in-law, Shaun.  He looks like George Clooney's love child.  Sorry, ladies, he is taken.  He is always doing crazy things.  Case in point, look at the picture blow.
The other night, I was on the phone with my sister.  We talked for about twenty minutes and then I had to go and get ready for the middle school meeting.  I walked out of the office and into my kitchen.  Shaun was leaning up against the sink, wearing nothing but one of my bath towels.  L was "cooking".
Me- Please tell me you are not naked under that towel.
Shaun- Okay, I won't.
Me- What happened?
Shaun- I was working on Dad's roof, when the bottom fell out.  I got completely soaked.
Me- Okay.......
Shaun- I need some dry clothes of Landon's to put on.
Me- Why didn't you come and get me?
Shaun- L said you were on the phone and HE was busy cooking supper (Ramen Noodles...yes I was feeling sorry that night, lol).
Me- What do you need?
Shaun- Everything.
I got out some underwear, socks, Wrangler carpenter pants, and a  t-shirt.  When he left, he looked exactly like the husband.  Know what?  I have seen him wear those pants twice since that happened.  I think we have a convert!

Tupperware Party

Tuesday night I went to a Tupperware party.  I know, I know, those of you who are paying attention are wondering how on Earth I drove there with the Vertigo.  Right?  First of all, by the late afternoon I was feeling back to normal.  Second of all, it was close to the house.  As in, five minutes away.  I went there with intentions of getting one thing that I had in mind, and ended up ordering two completely different things.  Now in my defense, I didn't get hornswaggled or anything.  My father-in-law likes to stop by around the time we are eating supper, and peruse the kitchen.  Think eagle circling a field mouse, trying to see if it looks juicy enough for the kill.  He will then wait to see if I am going to try and talk him into some supper, which he will then, in turn, take some in my nice, Zip-lock containers from Sam's, with the screw-on lids, and I will NEVER see said containers again.  So, I treated myself to some top-of-the-line ones with lids that can go into the microwave.  A whole set.  Say goodbye to spaghetti all over the place.  Can I get an AMEN!  Oh, and THESE containers, the poly-carbonate-never-staining-shoot-with-a-gun-bulletproof-drive-over-with-a-jacked-up-jeep-over-priced beauties?  Are NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE.  Ever.
