Gingerbread

Sunday we made our annual gingerbread houses for Christmas.  This year I decided to make two, instead of one to reduce the amount of fighting.  Tip number one: Hot glue the sides together the evening before you want to decorate the house.
How cute is this face?  You would never know that meltdown number 8,765 occurred immediately after this shot, because he thought Levi was putting too much candy on the roof.  (He knew he was going to munch on the left-overs.  And this little fella loves candy almost as much as my little nephew does, lol.)
The roof is the easiest part.  Put the icing on with a butter knife and let the kids go to town.  The more candy, the better they look.
My intentions were to take shots through-out the process, but when one mixes icing for TWO houses at one time, the time frame on the icing hardening gets a little dicey.  When they are older they want to make FOUR houses.  Dear Lord help me.
Ah, the finished product.  Eye the positions of each piece of candy very carefully.  Little sneaky people will try to eat parts of them when they think you aren't looking.  (I don't know why, but every morning G wakes up with a hair style like the one you see here, and S has perfect hair.  What's up?)

I got the kits at AC Moore the day after Thanksgiving. They were 5.99 each.

Cute! I keep thinking each year, we should do a house, but we have never gotten around to it. Maybe next year. They are really cute looking!

Those are so cute! Making gingerbread houses is one of my favorite Christmas traditions as well.

My Grandma makes them out of Graham crackers. That way each grandchild can make one and they are a smaller size. (she also hot glues them) the gingerbread tastes good but it works for our family.

They look great! I used to make gingerbread houses. Until I realized that caused all kinds o contention......mostly generated by me from frustration! :) I mean, they don't LOOK that difficult to make. he he.

They look awesome - they did a fantastic job with the decorations, and hot glue? I never would have thought... In high school my German II class would make Gingerbread houses, we had a great time, but they had to be completely edible, so no hot glue was used.

I want to do this too. Perhaps, this is the year. It will probably be one of those last minute ideas of mine just like the pumpkin carving was. We will see. And, those boys look so sweet. Meltdowns? You know I can so relate. haha :)

Those are so cute, I have never been brave enough to try and make them. I guess if I had a kit, it wouldn't be so bad. Your children are gorgeous!
