Open House

We have now been to two open houses for school.  This year I played the elementary one strategically.  It was from 4:30 to 7.  I know from years past that unless you want to park five miles away from the school, don't go early.  We went at 5:30.  Believe it or not these pictures are of what would be considered "not many cars".   I have seen triple this for a special day at school for ONE grade.  One nice thing is FINALLY knowing the layout of the pods ( I know... it took me long enough).  Upon entering the fourth grade pod we started reading the names on the doors.  The principal kept his word and didn't give W the teacher L had.  Why is your sons name always on the last door you read?  He has a newer teacher.  By the time we left I had already forgotten her name.  I asked L and he said it was Mrs. Dennis.  Mental note: think Heather, okay got it.  W's best buddy did not get in his class, but a few of his other friends did.  Mrs. Dennis said they are all starting out with 28 students this year instead of 22.  When are they going to STOP BUILDING HOUSES ALREADY.  They could have hired another teacher this year, and had six classes instead of five.
Okay, I digress.  I looked at the desks and noticed that there were only about five students left that hadn't come yet.  "It was like Walmart the day after Thanksgiving,"  his teacher said.  "They were lined up outside the doors before we unlocked them."  "Yeah, I was hoping for that.  I was one of those people last year," I replied.  We shared a good laugh.
The middle school experience could not have been more relaxing.  It was from 3-6, so we went at 2:50.  I expected the doors to be locked like the elementary school does.  But they were open and people were already inside.  We even got to park in the parking lot!  As we walked inside, we were directed to the gym.  There was a table set up for each grade and you received your schedule.  Then they gave us a map and highlighted their homeroom.  L has Mrs. Barrier for homeroom (not the one his father had, this lady is young).  We shared a good laugh over how she got L and Brett in her class.  The only Barrier's in the whole grade.  She showed us how to read the schedule and we walked over to his math class.  Can I shout WE GOT DOTTIE!  Hallelujah, a good math teacher.  We just peaked into the Science, Social Studies, Venture, and the library rooms.  L told me I was talking too much.  But I know most of the moms in this grade, we haven't seen them all summer.  We HAD to chit-chat, lol.  After we left the sixth grade hall, we went to the cafeteria and put some money on his lunch account.  They have a home-style line, a bar line and a fast food line.  At the other end of the cafeteria were the PE teachers.  We sized L for his uniforms.
W was actually more into walking around the school than L was.  It was too funny.  Sooooo, Monday here we come.  They both want to ride the bus on Monday.  I wasn't going to let L, but they go into the gym until the bell rings just like elementary school.  So my mind was set at ease.  We received a letter from the middle school stating that there was a waiting list for a seat on the bus.  If you gave yours up, you go to the end of the list.  I guess some people just realized how much gas they waste sitting in those pick-up lines.  Thanks goodness we picked bus rider, instead of car rider, back in March.  So, until they buy more buses, I guess there will always be a list from now on.  Last night we took the boys to the drive-in to celebrate the last days of summer vacation.  They had a blast!  The buddies were confused as to why we were sitting outside until the screen came on, lol.  We saw Space Chimps, and then left before the second movie started.  I don't think we could have stayed awake for it.  If you haven't been this summer you must go.  Where else is it okay to talk during the movie?

It's always nice when you know so many parents are involved! My kids ride the bus. If they decided they didn't want to, I'd have a real problem. It's a life saver for me! :)

We had Open House last night too. Ours is opposite, you need to get there early, like 10 minutes before,(ours was from 6-8 pm) and you can get close parking. It was a bit more crowded this year than last year, but not too bad. It was getting worse when we left. It's nice to get teachers you want or at least not get teachers you don't want.

I miss the drive in movies! Glad your open house went well! It's still hard for me to believe that it's time for school to start again! Summer went SO fast and I don't even have one in school yet!

I cant believe there is a waiting list for the bus! Out here it is a law that there must be a seat for every single child and if there is not one then the school district must get a new bus or higher a driver for the child. lol

Our end of the county is growing faster than the schools are. Right now if you build in a development you can't even go to our school, even though you would be in the district to. There are over 1,000 kids just at the elementary school. The middle schools needed buses, but the county bought city buses instead. Allot of people were riled up about it. Four schools feed into the middle school, with the largest one being ours, and the demand for more buses has come up short for several years now.
